Love! Did you see the post by Heather Cox Richardson this morning? Similar tone, comparing a Lincoln speech with what's going on today. I feel stymied in what to do, but Francine Falk-Allen posted a list that included when posting or talking about "him," don't use his name but refer to the Republican Administration. And also be kind to each other.
Thank you for this. As always, beautifully written and fascinating. Sadly, I think the title of your piece will be the title of the next four years. The cruelty is the point. That is what is making this so hard for me. I don't know how to deal with people who have decided that is okay.
Yes, it's particularly horrifying when the president is the one pouring the oil on the fire. In response,
I'm struck by how often I hear people say they are turning their radios off and refusing to read the news as if the issues are so big it's better not to know what's happening. I fear this collective 'not wanting to look' because although it may be less dramatic, it seems just as scary.

Thanks Terri. I'll go straight to Heather Cox's Substack now. And great lead--Francine Falk-Allen's advice.

That's what terrorizes me--that there are so many superficially, seemingly reasonable people who can find a way to approve/ignore systematic cruelty.
Well said!

I understand. Nobody wants to ride this roller coaster again. Yet we can’t ignore what’s happening.
Thank you Shelley. the resistance is led by writer's and artists who speak out.
Thanks Cindy!
very true, and unfortunately VERY relevant
Thank you for YOUR bravery.
Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much Valeries. I never feel brave. Only cranky:)
Excellent Shelley just excellent!
Thanks so much Dorothy. It's getting to the point where fiction (and history) read so much tamer than reality.
